“Glass River” Community Center

Cincinnati, OH

3rd Year Design Competition

Completed in Patrick Danahy’s Studio

2022

Parametric Design

Inspired by the Ohio River, the Glass River Community Center takes its cues from the curvature and reflectivity of the body of water. Much like the River itself, the Community Center promotes a fluid circulation through the public spaces, allowing members of the community to intersect and share experiences.

Through parametric experimentation, the form evolved from a combination of two forms pulling upwards and outwards.

Program

The Glass River is a community center at is podium levels, with space for gathering, a library, and public workshops. The short towers on either side of the building serve as rentable office space and admin offices.

Structure

The skin is a self-supporting space frame with two layers of panels to control light. The system allows for peak sun in the winter, and optimal shading in the summer months
